Cottage holidays in the Elan Valley
The Clyn is a remote 10 acre smallholding with livestock (sheep and poultry), extensive gardens, woodland, stream and ponds. It is situated over a mile from the nearest neighbour, high up on the edge of open moorland amidst wonderful scenery, overlooking wooded valleys and heather clad hillsides, 1½ miles from the Elan Valley reservoirs and 6 miles from the small market town of Rhayader.
The once derelict buildings have been restored in a sympathetic and sustainable way, incorporating two holiday cottages: a converted stone granary and an 18th century cottage. These provide the setting for 'green' holidays - features include solar panels, electricity from renewable sources (water, sun and wind) and pure spring water on tap. There is also a range of home produce (seasonally) available including organically grown vegetables, soft fruit, frozen meat, honey and eggs.
It is ideally placed for walking, mountain biking, fishing, birdwatching and nature lovers generally - or just for relaxing in total peace and quiet. It borders open access National Trust/Elan Valley Trust moorland (an SSSI and European SAC for merlins, peregrines and kites), RSPB reserves and the Elan Valley reservoirs - all are literally on the doorstep. There is abundant wildlife, with birds such as red kites, buzzards, peregrines and goshawks to be seen year round, as well as many summer visitors such as redstarts and pied flycatchers.
